Italy 2013: Travel/Fashion Essentials

Italy 2013: Travel/Fashion Essentials!

As many of my twitter/Instagram followers & friends may have seen me ranting on about how I was about to visit Italy for the first time ever! I’m just going to rant a lot more in a positive way! I explored so much fashion and culture in Italy, I’d be stupid not to let you all know what it was like. This blog post is about travel essentials, but for a fashion conscious man.

1) A great pair of walking shoes!

20130701-234556.jpg

– I am not a fan of wearing for comfort, which was a BIG mistake as I did not realise how much walking I would have to do! So guys (& girls) please if you’re the type who likes to walk a lot, a good, solid pair of trainers (sneakers), pumps or plimsolls. If you prefer sandals, make sure you wear them beforehand to see if you can cope a day in them. Above is the pair of plimsolls I wore a majority of the time. They were soo comfy and durable. They also fit perfectly and were light and great to walk loads in.

2) Protect those eyes with some Shades!

20130701-235216.jpg

– being from the UK, I don’t think I would have been able to survive my holiday without my sunglasses. I literally slept with them because I was so used to wearing them a majority of the time. I like a variety of different shapes and colour sunglasses, but I knew Italy was a very sophisticated place and I wanted to make a good impression. As much as I LOVE aviators (which look good on anybody), I wanted a quirkier pair which was also fun & sophisticated. I went with a pair of brown wayfarers. Above is the pair which I wore all the time, ultimately leaving me with a tan line over my eyes! Oops!

3) Straw hats ain’t for those in the Deep South anymore…

20130701-235655.jpg

20130701-235839.jpg

– if you’re travelling to a beach resort or a hike up a mountain this summer, a hat of any type is necessary. Although caps are perfectly fine, a more fashion forward statement is the straw hat which is very light and stylish all at the same time! I visited seriously hot places and I would not be able to have survived without it! I wore the hat in Rome, Pompeii, Naples and Capri. Above is how I wore it. Yet there are many ways you can wear it. I personally do not like looking like a tourist, there’s something so not appealing to how a majority dress, everyday you should try to dress good, especially when abroad!

These three essentials are a must-have for any guy/girl who are travelling this summer to any hot destination.

Other essentials include:

-Sun-Tan Lotion: be safe, and you don’t want to burn. This helped me a lot!

-Deodorant: you need to smell good as often as possible!

-Fragrance: You need to smell amazing on the outside also.

-Moisturiser: nobody wants dry skin on a summer holiday.

-Beard Trimmer: unless you want to keep a beard, it’s best to keep it short, keep this with you in your toiletries bag.

-Simple Accessories: a watch, bracelet, ring or necklace. Just to jazz things up.

-Invisible Socks: no, not stockings for men, they are socks which you can’t see when wearing with pumps to give an illusion that you’re not wearing any, when you are!

Where to purchase: –

Good shoes – ‘Next’ for £10 or any high street store you like.

Shades – ‘Urban Outfitters’ – £15. Cheap and long lasting!

Straw Hat – ‘Zara Man’ – £18, stylish and helpful!

Good quality deodorant and moisturiser from ‘Kiehls’

I wore ‘D&G: Light Blue’ fragrance – a classic.

Invisible Socks available at Mr Porter or Urban Outfitters.

Hope you’ve enjoyed a helpful guide for those of you travelling! – let me know where you’re heading for the holidays? Any more interest? Thanks!

Spring 2013 Hair Trend: Effortless Quiffs

Spring 2013 Hair Trend: Effortless Quiffs

Hairstyles are significantly important when you want to look and feel good. Here are some of the trendiest hairstyles also seen on GQ Australia.

The first is called ‘The James Franco’, obviously inspired by the terrific actor, and it also reminds me of James Dean, an actor who inspired Franco.

To achieve this look, aim to get sides shortened and keep the back a bit longer than the sides. Aim to gel the sides back for the classic look, for the top, aim to keep it longer and blow dry back. Then whilst blow-drying, rub gel into your hair and create the wavy texture. Also the use of hairspray will give that old Hollywood style and it’s done. This is really easy to do and very effortless, kinda like James Franco. (Look below to see how it should turn out)

Another trend is the short quiff, which is pretty similar to the one above. Here it’s more neatly done. To create the perfect quiff, use a comb to create partings whilst forming a quiff at the tip of the hair and push back. (Below) is how it should turn out. Using less gel or product here works better.

20130218-013339 PM.jpg

Quiffs are very on trend, if you’re wanting to create a more extreme quiff, grow the top longer in order to create a radical look. (Below) shows a highlighted quiff, Which is very effective. Soft highlights such as light tones, chocolate or honey tones create a cool look. Hairspray works well here, although textures wax can hold the hair upright.

So as you can see the traditional short back and sides works well. It is truly up to you to decide how long you want the top to be. If you do visit the barbers, be sure to take some images with you in order for them to get the closest possible. Having a short back and sides allows bed head to look good and you can literally walk out the house with a cool look. Highlights will look great especially in the spring.

This is how my hair looks after a fresh cut. I look at celebrity styles. So check online for people’s hairstyles you admire. Thanks!

Ryan Gosling: Style Icon

Ryan Gosling: Style Icon

Ryan Gosling has certainly defined how every man should dress. From casual jeans and a tee to a blue tuxedo. He likes to try different styles, being defined as a Style Icon for Mens fashion of the 21st Century.

20130216-055516 PM.jpg

This suit (above) was worn by Ryan at the ‘Ides of March’ Premiere. The Olive coloured suit is so cool and special. Here his tie is matching the suit which looks very good, and the patterned design on the tie gives an edge to the already show-stopping suit! The use of black creates a sophisticated style and the white shirt makes it more casual and relaxed.

20130216-055922 PM.jpg

The suit (displayed above) where Ryan wore this suave brown suit at the premiere of ‘Gangster Squad’. Ryan, with his mother, shows off a three-piece suit, where the waistcoat looks great. Waistcoats are in trend and look good when matched with the suit. My favourite item here is the leather studded shoes, which is such a daring yet contemporary shoe. The shoe completes the outfit to make it a stand out piece of fashion.

20130216-060720 PM.jpg

The suit (above) worn by Ryan at the Crazy, Stupid, Love premiere is a unique take on the classic black suit. This time enhanced with silver threaded check all over the suit. The design comes across well in images.

20130216-060922 PM.jpg

The outfit (above) really represents the effortless style of Ryan Gosling. It’s very clean, casual and effortless. The stripy cardigan and black jeans gives off a casual look, whilst the rocker boots give a effortless take on a clean look. The sunglasses enhance his star image making him seem very cool and the chain around his neck adds some individual funk to his outfit, making it more interesting.

TIP: enhancing your style with little changes. From Ryan’s style we can see he likes to make a usual look, unusual (in a great way). He clearly understands fashion. Accessories are always a plus. Not too many, for example; a pair of sunglasses, a chain/necklace, a bracelet/watch or a cool ring. I also think the making traditional, untraditional is great also, like his studded shoes or a patterned tie. Never be afraid to think outside of the box and look at Ryan’s fashion for inspiration. I certainly have.

What do you think? Is Ryan Gosling a great icon for mens style? What’s your favourite look? Want to know where to get similar items? Let me know!

Fashion Icon: R-Patz & Gucci

Fashion Icon: R-Patz & Gucci

Robert Pattinson, star of the Twilight Saga may seem to have a relaxed personal style, yet you can tell he has a fashionable, confident side comes out when he dresses in the best Gucci suits! Let’s see his best choices.

This suit is one of my absolute favourites (below). He wore this powder blue Gucci at the premiere of Cosmopolis. This was after the K-Stew cheating scandal, where he displayed to the public that he was unfazed by the media frenzy and promoted his film with style and class. I love the idea of the suit shade getting darker. His powder blue suit is paired with a darker blue shirt and a black tie. The colour contrast of this is brilliant and recommended when wearing a coloured suit. The idea of using black minimally creates a unique look, rather than the typical. Also a great fit is hugely important, slim fit trousers are the trend, and ultra-slim is much flattering to guys with longer legs or a natural slim frame like R-Patz.

20130216-013557 PM.jpg

This suit (below) was worn at the Twilight: Eclipse premiere. Although a while back, maroon/burgundy is a popular suit colour on red carpets for men. This suit is very daring, so pairing it with a white shirt makes it pop and keeps it simple. Having the jacket buttons match the tie here works well.

20130216-014116 PM.jpg

This suit (below) was worn at the premiere of ‘Water for Elephants’ and I love this colour. This brown is rarely seen on the red carpet, (but Ryan Gosling was recently seen wearing a similar one). It’s such a rare colour and yet it works really well. The black and brown combination works well and the brown is not a typical brown, it’s almost hazel and chocolate combined.

20130216-021200 PM.jpg

Last but not least, is one of my favourites R-Patz has donned. Worn at the Breaking Dawn Part Two premiere in LA and I have to say its a stunning suit. I love it. When I first saw this suit I was crazy to find a cheaper and affordable version! It’s one of a kind due to the intimate squared detailing on the emerald suit, it also has a silky shine to it. A statement suit for sure. The powder blue shirt is also a great combination, making it that little more different.

20130216-022027 PM.jpg

Tip: in order to look youthful, only close the one button of the jacket, allowing you room to breathe also.

More Celebrity styles coming up soon! Which one is your favourite suit? Let me know!

Scarf-face the Fashion

Scarf-Face the Fashion

Another accessory I love to wear in the winter and I can truly have fun with are Scarves!

I always wear a scarf, whether it’s in the cold winter or an evening out, it automatically compliments any attire.

There are so many styles of scarves. Either thin cotton types, or chunky knit wear. From ascots to snoods. So many to choose from!

20130215-041010 PM.jpg

(Above) is a 100% cotton scarf in navy blue from high street brand ‘River Island’ which is very simple and can make a casual outfit very sophisticated and cool. You could also pair it with a suit or a dark pea coat.

This chunky knit scarf (below) from Zara man is a very fashionable item. I love the style of how it’s wrapped around, as it keeps you warm in the winter chill and turns heads when you walk by.

The black scarf (below left) is very understated yet this reminds me of Johnny Depp, making it very relaxed and effortlessly stylish. A blazer and a scarf work very well together, especially when it’s thin and light in weight.

20130215-041346 PM.jpg

For those dressing to impress, silk scarves are very suited towards working men. Silk scarves add an elegant ‘tinge’ to the smart casual look, and on guys define expense and class. Silk scarves are usually patterned, yet I think you should stick with heavily patterned silk than a plain one. (Look below)

20130215-043343 PM.jpg

I love this scarf (below) especially because of the pop of colour and the design. It really contrasts well with the check design and the beige coat. Try and contrast well, it always looks fashionable to take a risk.

20130215-043422 PM.jpg

Another example is how to contrast a scarf is choosing a darker colour and putting it with bright or moody colours. (Below) is my check black and white squared scarf with an army green jacket which works well.

I hope this explained how scarves can enhance a look instantly without changing the outfit & best of all, it keeps you warm and stylish! Feedback welcome! Please share this around.

Fashion Quote 2…

Fashion Quote 2

“Real luxury is understanding quality, and having the time to enjoy it.”
– G. Bruce Boyer

TIP: No matter what the price tag, whether cheap or luxurious, you need to understand that quality plays a significant part in fashion. You want to own and wear clothing you’ll feel confident in and you’ll have a great time in. When you understand the quality of an item of clothing, you’ll appreciate it more. High street clothing from stores such as Zara and Topman use very good quality of clothing. Not recommended is Primark, which use very cheap fabric, and bad quality. Dress to have fun!

My Current Obsession: Burberry Prorsum

Image

I will always keep you updated on my current fashion obsessions, whether it is the latest trend to hit the catwalk, or if I believe it is very unique and cool. My current obsession is Burberry Prorsum’s line of metallic mens clothing. Most importantly (the above image), which is just one of the variety of metallic shirts Burberry have to offer. You may have seen David Beckham’s son model the kiddie version, but this version is the ultimate luxury item. This is especially for the guy who likes to treat himself now and again, and at a heavy pocketful of ‘£350.00’, it does not suit the taste for a student, yet I bet you should all keep a look out for a high-street copy, which I believe will be in stores some time this year.

This shirt could be worn as above, with a sophisticated suit or blazer and would be a perfect item when going to a special occasion or if you want to have all eyes on you. I prefer it with a blazer or suit jacket, so it is not too overwhelming as this piece is very daring, but suitable for the fashionable Gentleman.

This is just the beginning of my current fashion obsession, but I cannot get over this look. So edgy and editorial, yet very suave and laid-back. PERFECT!
